kirikiriroa kitchen | RESIDENTIAL
We worked with the very talented Tim Grocott of Taus Ceramic and his partner Emma Buckton for this galley kitchen in Kirikiriroa / Hamilton, designed for his parents and their next chapter of inner city living.
We love it’s playfulness and colour, tempered by an industrial minimalism. The striking metal work is powder-coated in Dulux ‘hot chilli’, offset by the cooler Laminex Melteca in ‘spinifex naturale’ cabinetry. Opposite, a cabinet of Oak veneer on birch ply is topped with a hard-wearing stainless steel counter.
Tim writes, “In designing this kitchen, we wanted to make the cabinetry almost feel like furniture. By wrapping the entire partition wall in the same material as the pantry cabinets, it hopefully lends the effect of being a single piece, holding up the roof box above. Similarly, by raising the bottom of the bench cabinetry, it moves more into the realm of a sideboard extending out into the dining room. This also gives the added benefit of a more spacious feeling within the kitchen itself. “
