MILFORD KITCHEN + LAUNDRY | RESIDENTIAL
Just a short stroll from Milford Beach on Auckland’s North Shore is a white, turn of the century house that has been the Robinson family home for the last quarter century. With the kids now out of the nest, owners Rod and Margaret knew it was a time for a pretty hefty renovation.
Taking on the redesign of the kitchen, dining and laundry areas was architects, Burgess Treep & Knight, specialists in heritage and residential architecture.
Having seen a previous kitchen collaboration between Fieldcraft and the architects, the client engaged Fieldcraft to craft a wooden shaker-style kitchen, a design synonymous with simple lines and understated wooden cabinetry with recessed paneling.
Warm American Oak was used for the kitchen and laundry cupboards, with large bi-fold cupboards providing ample storage. Ventilation holes are also included at the top of the oak doors, not just for detail-sake, but functionality too.
The north-facing kitchen gets plenty of light during the day, but the addition of LED lighting under the top cabinets, in both the laundry and kitchen areas, provides adequate lighting in the evenings too. It was important to ensure their seamless incorporation into the cabinetry, a detail that doesn’t go unnoticed.
