My Laundry Bag, a laundromat in Mt Eden, takes washing day to a whole new level of zen. Tasked with modernising the traditional laundromat, interior designer Kate Pilot chose natural colours and materials with a Japanese aesthetic to bring a softness and serenity to the industrial space.
Kate collaborated with us to design the Japanese inspired joinery using Tasmanian Oak. Features include the functional centrepiece for folding laundry, light sconces, point of sale counter, and seating and tables on which to read or work while waiting for the laundry to dry.
This project went on to win Kate a GOLD at the Best Awards in 2020. Judges said, “Making laundry fun is a hard task and this project through clever use of colour, natural materials and reading nooks manages to achieve just that. A completely unique and delightful approach to humanise an experience in what is traditionally a very industrial and blank space.”
