Cockburn street kitchen

As the heart of a home, the kitchen needs to be functional, hard-wearing and inviting. Burgess, Treep & Knight Architects invited us to create such a kitchen in a contemporary Shaker style in a newly renovated family home in Grey Lynn.

Solid Ash was used for the exterior, hand-painted in Aalto 'Expansion' to allow the woodgrain to show though, and macrocarpa for the pantry interior to provide warmth.

In keeping with the Shaker custom, we used traditional brass pin-hinges and handles, and steered clear of any obvious 'clever' hardware, opting to use it where it counted such as soft-close drawers. The clients choice of a butler sink and Falcon range fitted in seamlessly with the overall look. The resultant kitchen is full of craft, character and warmth.
